Hello my name is Devin Lecakes-Jones and I am the co-head coach in charge of the throwing events (Shot Put and Discus). My track journey started when I was a child playing in the long jump pits at Rancho Bernardo High School while my dad, Don Jones, was the head track coach. I started learning shot put in the 6th grade and eventually Brock the middle school record. While at Rancho Bernardo, I won the shot put and discus at the Frosh / Soph Championships. During my high school career, I was a 7-Time CIF Finalist in the shot put and discus. I am 5th all time on the RB shot put list with a throw of 55 feet 3.5 inches. My success allowed me to attend college at UC San Diego where I threw 53’11” with the 16lb shot put, currently 7th on the all time list there. My coaching experience, I coached the throws at Rancho Bernardo in 2022 and 2025. During that span, I had 5 League Champions, 1 CIF Division 1 Boys Team Title (26.5 points in the throws) and 1 State Qualifier. Finally, I was the head coach at Ramona High School in 2023. My goal as a track coach is to allow athletes to find the correct movements to allow them to throw the metal implement as far as possible and to establish a positive and competitive environment that deepens the athlete’s passion for the sport.
